Intellectual Property Policy
- Author Authorization. Authors must attest that they have reviewed and approved the content of the manuscript following the editorial process provided by the Journal and submit the Assignment of Rights document.
- Assignment or Transfer of Rights. Authors must assign the rights to their work to the Journal, which will provide a form that provides the formal agreement that the author assigns the rights to edit, publish, and distribute the manuscript.
- Reproduction by the Journal. The Journal has the right to reproduce, distribute, and make available the article in all formats and media, including print and electronic versions. It also has the right to coordinate with international agencies for the redistribution of published manuscripts, if it deems it appropriate.
- Licenses for Use. The Journal publishes all manuscripts included in its issues under a Creative Commons open access license, which permits the distribution and utilization of the content without generating derivative works or commercial redistribution of the publications.
- Acknowledgment of Contributions. In the manuscript, the authors are required to acknowledge all significant contributions made by third parties to the study. This includes individuals who have made substantial contributions to the design, execution, or interpretation of the results, as well as entities that have provided financial support to the research process.
- Reproduction Permission. Authors are required to obtain permission to use and reproduce any material not owned by them that is included in their manuscripts, such as figures, tables, or text from other publications. Furthermore, they are obliged to provide the Journal with evidence of these permissions prior to the publication of their manuscripts.
- Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism. The Journal has strict rules to prevent and address plagiarism and self-plagiarism, including verification or review for fair copying. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism, or self-plagiarism will be rejected at the initial review stage, and authors will be informed of the journal's policy on academic integrity.
- The Journal must keep documents submitted for review anonymous and will maintain confidentiality about the status of manuscripts throughout the peer-review process and until the document is officially published.
- Open Access. All documents published by the Journal will be available under an open access license, meaning that readers may access, share, and reuse the content in accordance with the terms of the Creative Commons license under which the Journal is registered.
- All readers are required to properly cite manuscripts published by the Journal, for which the Journal provides explicit citation guidelines.
- Declaration of Conflict of Interest. Authors must declare any conflicts of interest that might affect the study, or the interpretation of the data discussed. This includes any financial, personal, or professional relationship that may be related to the content of the manuscript.
- Conflict Review. The Journal reviews and manages conflicts of interest reported by authors to ensure that the principles of integrity and impartiality are not compromised in the editorial process.
- Procedures for Retraction or Correction of Errors. In the case of serious errors involving integrity issues, the Journal has a public retraction procedure that can be found in the Journal's DECLARATION OF ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND GOOD EDITORIAL PRACTICES. In the case of serious errors or integrity problems, the Journal should have a clear procedure for retracting articles. In the case of minor errors, errata or corrections will be used, which the Journal will issue when it deems it necessary upon discovery of an error in a published manuscript.
- Compliance with Laws and Regulations. The Journal complies with the Copyright Law and related regulations in force in the Costa Rican context and maintains the commitment to comply with the provisions of international laws and regulations on intellectual property, as well as the general rules of scientific publication in force at the international level.
- Data Protection. The personal data of authors and reviewers shall be managed by the journal in accordance with the data protection and privacy laws in force in the country and in accordance with international guidelines for this type of publication media.
