Abstract

We consider that some bird species categorized as “harmful” by Monge in his “Updated list of harmful birds of Costa Rica (2012)” should not be in the list. Birds should not be considered “harmful”, “pest” or “potential pest” in Costa Rica just because they were so in
other latitudes. We argue that the list should be reevaluated to avoid an unnecessarily negative perception of birds.
