Abstract

During the last recent years, the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) from Costa Rica, has suffered different problems that are damaging the health services that it provides to the population. Based on that fact, citizenry participation becomes an important tool in order to promote accountability and responsibility in the management of this very important institution. As a response to this claim, some social organizations from the canton of Pérez Zeledón paid attention to the importance of having a range of different indicators concerning the quality and opportunity of the priorly mentioned health services and their efficiency. On this base, this article develops and offers a proposal of indicators with the aim of providing all the people that need and use the Caja health services, the opportunity of evaluating them and giving some feedback that can help that institution improve its services and performance.
