Abstract

Ngäbere, language spoken in five indigenous territories in Costa Rica, is facing a process of displacement that threatens the continuity of the Ngäbe-Buglé people’s linguistic and cultural heritage. The objective of this study was to develop technological tools for the documentation, revitalization, and intergenerational transmission of the language through an interactive digital dictionary and a mobile app featuring vocabulary, audio translations, and cultural content. The methodology was based on participatory action research, incorporating interviews, focus groups, and audiovisual recordings with native speakers from Osa, Conte Burica, Abrojos Montezuma, Coto Brus, and Altos de San Antonio. The results show that the collaborative use of digital technologies promotes language preservation, strengthens community identity, and offers a replicable model for other indigenous languages.
